About SWSA Lethbridge

Mission

The Social Work Students' Association – Lethbridge (SWSA-Leth) is the official club for social work students in the BSW and MSW programs at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Social Work Lethbridge Campus. 'SWSA-Leth' aims to enhance the overall university experience for students in the faculty of social work. The club strives to achieve this by providing events and services that develop member’s professional, academic and social activity. SWSA-Leth is dedicated toward promoting respect, human dignity and worth of all persons.

Values

SWSA-Leth’s values and beliefs are anti-oppressive, inclusive, and based on the principles of social justice.

Constitution

The SWSA-Leth Board functions on a consensus model and consists of eight members representing each level (3rd yr BSW, 4th yr BSW, and MSW) of the student body. The structure of board membership is based on the availability, interest and experience of the various levels of the student body. With this structure in mind, SWSA-Leth will draw primarily from the fourth year BSW students, then the third year BSW students, and finally the MSW students.

The Consensus model ensures that the voices of all levels are heard without concern of over or under representation.  Each board member has a vote and a consensus must be met for any decision to be passed. By reaching agreement between all members, the group is committed to finding solutions that everyone actively supports – or at least can agree to.

The board does not host any specific executive positions as customary by traditional board models. The SWSA-Leth Board will host various roles and responsibilities which the board members decide amongst each member who will appropriate the various roles and responsibilities. These roles and responsibilities can flux throughout the program year or remain static, but it is the decision of the board as a whole which roles and responsibilities need to be appropriated, to whom they are appropriated, and when.
